are we?
Richard
Baker ex Surrey Fire Service and Iain McWilliam from West Midlands
Fire Service bring together over 70 years of emergency service
experience in operational, prevention and training backgrounds.
Their combined expertise and enthusiasm and energy will raise the
profile of safer fire fighting in the UK.
Iain
McWilliam was Station Commander and then Deputy Divisional Commander
for one of the busiest divisions in the UK, he was also a founder
member of C.U.E.E.S., which was launched in 1989. C.U.E.E.S.
organised the annual road accident extrication competition in the UK
from 1989-2002, which is now organised by the UK Rescue
Organisation. He is a Member of The Institution of Fire
Engineers and a Justice of the Peace. Iain has trained fire
services all over the world on the use and tactical application of
COBRA in the past 6 years, ranging from Australia and Malaysia to
the UK.
Richard
Baker, is Chief Fire Officer for Dar es Salaam,
Tanzania after setting up from scratch a fully functional fire,
rescue and ambulance service based on UK standards. This now
covers Kenya as well and includes air ambulance response covering
some 588,000 square miles. Richard was co-author of The Energy
Institute’s code of practice on the product and vehicle recovery of
low flash products transported by road tanker and was founder of the
national Vehicle Fire Investigation course which has IFE CPD. He is an Associate Member of the Institute of
Road Transport Engineers, Associate Member of the Society of
Operational Engineers and an Honorary Member of the Institute of
Vehicle Recovery. He is also author of the Police Blue Book on
dealing with HAZMAT incidents, author of the risk management distant
learning BSc programme for the University of Hong Kong, author of
the Police and Forensic Science Fire Investigation handbook and
Exercise Director for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Counter
Terrorism Exercises in Central and East Africa.
Richard and Iain are fully qualified instructors, fire safety
officers and experienced fire officers who have taken command of
many demanding fire and rescue situations both in the UK and
overseas. The new response unit based on a VW Crafter 5t
van with both road accident and medical capability, PLI is set to
provide an essential tactical fire fighting tool by the UK Fire &
Rescue Services
